St. Mark's church

Located on the crossing of Sw. Marka and Slawkowska street. The church was funded by Boleslaw the Shy, the prince of Krakow, for the monks of the Order of St. Augustine, brought from Prague. At the end of the 13th century.

At the beginning of the 19th century, the monastery with the church were taken over by the Austrian government. In the 30's of the 20th century, part of the church was demolished and converted into shops on Slawkowska street.

On the outer wall of the chancel, a copy of Golgotha (a Gothic cross with Christ and the statues of the Virgin Mary and St. John, the Evangelist) from around 1500 is located. According to the story, this sculpture is supposed to have been talking to the blessed Michal Giedroyc, who is buried next to the main altar. A small sanctuary, so called "Giedroycianum", with a collection of the famous monk's belongings, is located within the church. A beautiful sculpture of Archangel Michael with the dragon was made by one of the friends of Balatazar Fontana.

Also in the church, lies chapel to Our Lady of Czestochowa, with a miraculous picture of Madonna.
