Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus
Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a great example of modernism in polish architecture. The building was erected at the beginning of the 20th century, precisely - between the years 1910 and 1921, basing on the project of Franciszek Maczynski. Many great artist of that time contributed to the creation of the basilica. Xawery Dunikowski, the creator of the statue of Jesus above the main portal, Jan Bukowski is the author of the polychromies, Karol Hukan is the sculptor of the figures of the saints and Jan Raszka created the crucifix. The whole cathedral is overlooked by a huge, 70-meter tower, similar to the tower of the Corpus Christi church, though the latter is in Gothic style.
In 1960, pope John XXIII has made the temple a minor basilica.
